Kathryn Gunter, MPH, MSW

Deputy Director

Kathryn E. Gunter, MPH, MSW, Deputy Director of the Bridging the Gap National Program Office, is a health services researcher with extensive experience in program management for multi-component interventions and evaluation teams. Prior to joining the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago, she worked with the Center on Men’s Health Disparities at the University of Michigan, and with a program of community-based participatory research studying the role of religion in American Muslim health behaviors, healthcare seeking patterns, and healthcare challenges in Southeastern Michigan. She has experience implementing community-based interventions with a focus on chronic disease management in culturally tailored and patient empowerment interventions. For more than six years, she has worked with projects at the University of Chicago, including the Merck Foundation-funded intervention “Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago”, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation programs Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change and Finding Answers: Solving Disparities Through Payment and Delivery System Reform, and a Commonwealth Fund commissioned national evaluation of a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) demonstration project. She worked previously in a Baltimore, MD federally qualified health center as an HIV case manager as part of a multidisciplinary care team and as a clinic manager for Planned Parenthood in western North Carolina. She holds a dual master’s degree in public health and social work from the University of Michigan.
